At Five Freedoms, we are dedicated to improving the welfare of animals trapped in systems that fail to respect their most fundamental rights.

Our work is rooted in the internationally recognized Five Freedoms—basic rights every animal should have to live without pain, fear, or neglect. These freedoms have been embraced by leading global organizations, such as the World Health Organization and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as essential standards for animal welfare.

THE FIVE FREEDOMS:
A CALL TO ACTION

The Five Freedoms set a clear and necessary standard for how animals should be treated. However, certain food companies continue to fail in respecting even these basic standards, leading to ongoing neglect and cruelty.

01 Freedom from Hunger and Thirst

Every animal should have access to clean water and nutritious food that sustains them.

02 Freedom from Discomfort

Animals deserve an appropriate environment, including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

03 Freedom from Pain, Injury, or Disease

Animals should never suffer from untreated injuries or diseases and should not endure painful procedures without relief.

04 Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour

Every animal has natural instincts that should be respected, with space and conditions to exhibit their normal behaviors.

05 Freedom to Fear and Distress

Animals should not endure fear, distress, or mistreatment, particularly during handling, transport, and slaughter.

THE FIVE FREEDOM PRINCIPLES
ARE BEING VIOLATED

This chronic neglect of the Five Freedoms is not just a matter of poor conditions; it is a failure of responsibility on the part of companies that could adopt humane practices but choose not to.

OUR MISSION
Ensuring
the Five Freedoms
for All Animals

At Five Freedoms, we aren’t simply raising awareness—we are demanding that food companies respect the Five Freedoms. Our goal is to ensure that all animals, especially those in food production, are treated with the care and dignity they deserve.
Through grassroots campaigns, corporate engagement, and advocacy for policy reform, we are pushing companies to prioritize animal welfare over profits. Together, we can hold these industries accountable and work toward a future where the Five Freedoms are fully respected across all sectors of the food industry.
